They are artificial implants that are attached to the mouth to replace lost or damaged teeth. The implants are attached to the jaw bone to serve as a tooth root, then a replacement prosthetic tooth is placed over it. The teeth can be replaced by dentures, bridges and crowns.
An implant that closely resembles a rotating screwdriver is surgically inserted into the bone to allow bony interference to occur.
This is a natural process whereby materials such as titanium are able to form bonds with the bone, without the risk of rejection or infection. Once bone fusion is successful and after the surgical site proper healing, an artificial tooth will be attached to the implant.
What does dental implantation do?
This procedure is a team effort between you and the dentist. The specialists will consult with you to determine the location and method of dental implant depending on your condition and the type of implant chosen, then the dentist will create a treatment plan designed to meet your needs.
Dental implants replace lost teeth in the following cases:
1- Replacement of individual teeth.
2- Replacement of all teeth.
3- Lift the sinuses to make room for the implant.
4- Correcting teeth rows.
5- Dental implants are not just pasting and installing some artificial teeth in the mouth, they are a complete surgical procedure that takes several months to treat your damaged teeth and replace missing teeth and roots with artificial ones, depending on several factors.
What are the advantages of dental implants?
1. Natural appearance.
2. Constancy of permanence.
3. Prevent bone atrophy.
4. Restore self-confidence.
5. Improve speaking.
6. Preserving the resting teeth.
7. Improve chewing.
What are the stages of the dental implant process?
After making the necessary preparations before the operation, removing the damaged teeth and ensuring the general health of the mouth, the doctor begins in the steps of the process by providing local anesthesia for the patient, then the three main stages of the process begin as follows:
First: Preparation of the implant and planting it:
At this stage, the doctor places the implant made of pure titanium, fixes it well between the jawbones, then closes the surrounding gum tissue and covers it from the top. The implant will be left for a period of 3 to 6 months to give enough time for it to fuse well with the jawbone.
Second: Placing the outer part of the implant:
After the bone fusion with the titanium implant, the doctor places the external part on the implant. This procedure is done under local anesthesia, in this stage the gum tissue gradually heals around the stent and the metal implant.
Third: The final composition:
At this stage, the doctor makes models for the teeth and jawbones till reaching the correct dimensions of the artificial tooth that will be placed after the dental implant procedure. After settling on a specific mold, the external crown is placed on the outer tooth part, which is very similar to the natural teeth in color and shape. Finally, after installing the new tooth is tried for the last fixation.
Immediate dental implants:
The implantation and installation of the external part can be done in one session without waiting for the ossification period, which saves time and effort. This technique is only used after certain factors are confirmed to avoid the failure of implantation in the future.
