  • Emergency treatment
Dental emergencies are not always limited to pain, there are fungal, bacterial and viral infections, broken teeth or dental restoration. According to the World Health Organization tooth pain is classified as one of the most severe pains. In addition, dental pains can only be solved by proper diagnosis and identifying of the problem that can be solved by local or sometimes total anesthesia and the dentist's medical intervention.

What are the emergency situations that cause dental pain, and how to deal with each of them?

    First, cases of broken teeth:
A person is exposed to multiple accidents in his life, including what leads to a fracture of the front teeth, that may be one tooth or more according to the strength of the accident, in these cases the following instructions should be followed:

1- Clean the broken and damaged area immediately by removing accumulated dirt or food residues, using warm water and perform gentle cleaning.
2- Use cold compresses or ice pieces over the affected area to reduce the swelling as the cold helps to constrict the blood vessels, which reduces the bleeding as well.
3- It is preferred to apply pressure to the bleeding area with clean gauze.
4- Avoid placing an aspirin pill on the affected area or the gum because this leads to gums burning and causes more pain.
5- Visit the dentist immediately to make the necessary diagnosis and proper medical procedures, including radiographs and analyzes.
6- If the fracture is minor and includes enamel only, it will be restored using a cosmetic fill.
7- If the fracture includes the layer of enamel and dentin, it is also restored with a cosmetic filling.
8- If the fracture includes enamel and dentin, passing through the nerve chamber, then the nerve is isolated in a specialized way, or root treatment may be required.
9- If the fracture includes the root, then the root should be extracted and replaced with artificial teeth or tooth implantation, and this is at the discretion of the doctor.

Secondly, cases of teeth falling out as a result of an accident:
Young children are exposed during their daily lives to multiple accidents that lead to tooth loss, and it is important to preserve the fallen teeth to replant them using the following instructions:
1- Hold the fallen tooth from the front, i.e. from the enamel area, and never touch the root.
2- Put the tooth in a container of milk, or warm water with salt, or place it under the patient’s own tongue, where saliva acts as a solution of salt.
3- Go to the nearest dental clinic to re-implant the tooth in place and fix it with wires available in the dental clinic.
4- This period should be very fast, within half an hour at most of the tooth falling out.
5- The dentist will then remove the nerve and fill the roots.

Third, cases of jaw fractures accidents:
    Causes of jaw fractures:
    1- Car accidents.
    2- Assaults.
    3- Face quarrels.

    Jaw fractures treatment:
The treatment of jaw fractures is by examining the teeth and making sure of their fractures, their fall, or their movement from their place. Teeth may need to be secured with wires or strips, and this can be done by a surgeon.

    Fourth, teeth falling out automatically:
This is for the following reasons:
Bad oral and dental hygiene is the main reason for early tooth loss and fall. Neglecting dental hygiene leads to disease widespread in the teeth and gums, which leads to the accumulation of tartar on the teeth, especially the area where the teeth meet the gums. Tartar is one of the causes that lead to tooth decay and gum infections, extreme neglect leads to deeper caries and deep gingival pockets, and thus the result in this case is tooth extraction and replacement with fixed or mobile prosthetic fixtures.

After that, a complete lifestyle changes must be made in terms of hygiene and attention to oral and dental health to prevent germs from sticking to the surfaces of the teeth or the accumulation of food residues, which is considered a fertile ground for the occurrence of caries and gingivitis.
